Statement from Jason Gerhard
Jason Gerhard's Statement to the Court at his Sentencing
Jason Gerhard is one of the four supporters of tax truthers Ed and Elaine Brown, convicted for helping the elderly couple. The following is his statement to the court at the time of his sentencing.
I would like to apologize to the victims of my actions. Wait, there are none. To this day I am still trying to figure out how a crime can be committed absent a victim. Then again totalitarian governmets tend to operate outside the laws of logic.
I strongly believe that “the doctrine of non-resistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.” This belief was also shared by the men who wrote New Hampshire's constitution, because it is the last sentence of Article 10, the right of revolution.
The fact that this case was brought forward instead of being thrown out on grounds of stupidity proves beyond a reasonable doubt that this is a kangaroo court. How could any man with half a brain actually consider imprisoning me for exercising my constitutional rights?
Although the thought of spending the next 15,20,30 years behind bars is not very pleasant, knowing that I commited no crime makes the time easier to bear. Every time a guard tells me that he supports my stand or a stranger sends me a card saying thank you, I know I did the right thing.
Disgust would be the ideal word to describe my feelings toward this kangaroo court and the government in general. There is no point in getting angry at the incompetent, ignorant, and corrupt government, because it is the people's fault for allowing fools to remain in power for so long.
The American people possess the strength, intelligence, and tools necessary to throw off tyrannical government. We have done it before, and GOD willing will do so again.
Let me add that to this day the government has not presented the law requiring Ed and Elaine to pay the federal income tax!
