SPCA Joins the Police State
Tue, 11/11/2008 - 15:14 — katkanningBy Kat Kanning
On November 4th, Cooper Travis was arrested at his home in Candia for refusing to turn off his video camera while speaking with a police officer. According to Travis, “The SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) came to my house and demanded that he be let onto the property to see the horse shelter. He did not introduce himself as anyone (He was later identified as Steven Sprowl), he just started demanding.” Cooper told the man that he couldn't let him on the property without the property owner's consent. Sprowl left angrily and called the sheriff.

Lauren Canario was tried on 11/10 for refusing to empty her pockets. On September 19th, she had attempted to enter the federal courthouse in Concord to retrieve the video camera the feds had stolen from her a year earlier. She walked through the security checkpoint, and the cell phone in her pocket set the alarm off. Court security officer Ahern testified that he recognized Lauren as a “Brown supporter,” referring to jailed tax-truthers Ed and Elaine Brown.
Brown Supporter Danny Riley Sentenced
Tue, 10/28/2008 - 17:17 — katkanningBy Kat Kanning
October 28th, 2008
Danny Riley was sentenced to a 432 month imprisonment today. Riley is one of the four imprisoned supporters of tax-truthers Ed and Elaine Brown. The sentencing hearing was scheduled for 11:30 am, but actually started at 10:00 am in an apparent attempt to keep sympathizers from attending the “public” hearing.
The prosecutor in the case recommended a total of 457 months imprisonment. I did not hear his reasoning, since the hearing had begun early.
New Hampshire Prison Conditions

Being stuck in jail for two weeks, I thought I might as well report on prison conditions in NH from the inside. Merrimack County Jail officials ignored my request for an interview, so I mostly have information from prisoners.
Activists Jailed for Speaking Out Against Torture

The October edition of the New Hampshire Free Press is late, since the feds decided to jail me for 15 days. September 19th, my friend and fellow activist Lauren Canario was told that she could return to the Federal Courthouse in Concord to finally retrieve the video camera the feds stole from her a year earlier. Repeated attempts to retrieve her property had only resulted in repeated games of runaround. For this trip, Lauren had assurances from Federal Marshal Gary DiMartino that she would indeed get her camera back this time.

Kat supporting Lauren Canario minutes before she was arrested by Federal Marshals
September 30th, 2008
Judge Muirhead found Kat Kanning guilty on 2 charges and sentenced her to 15 days in jail. So she will spend the next week or so in Merrimack County Jail.
The Feds originally scheduled the trial for Tuesday at 1:30pm, but held it on Monday at 10am. When Kat called Lauren Canario as a witness, the trial was continued on Tuesday at 10am. About 26 supporters showed up with the late notice to see Kat and Lauren in the courtroom.
Lauren was brought to the courthouse from the Strafford County jail, where she is serving out her identical 15 day sentence.

Lauren Canario Jailed

(Lauren Canario)
Lauren Canario is behind bars again. Why is this quiet woman considered such a danger to society that she needs to be locked up? She was standing in an IRS office, wearing a mask from the movie “V for Vendetta”, and refused to leave when asked. This arrest was part of a series of protests of the IRS.

In July, 2006, Russell Kanning was arrested in the Keene IRS office for handing out a flyer which read “Hitler had a revenue department too” and which suggested that IRS employees quit their jobs. (http://www.republicofnh.org/brochure.pdf)
