Cheshire County Courthouse Chalked with FIJA Messages

The Cheshire County Courthouse was chalked with FIJA messages last night by freekeene.com bloggers.

FIJA is the Fully Informed Jury Association, which seeks to tell jurors that they have a right to not only judge the facts of the case, but the law itself. Messages read "FIJA.org", "You can change the law", "Your conscience is above the law", "Juries can overrule judges", "Stand down, your honor. Citizens outrank you.", "Vote YOUR conscience, not THEIRS" "The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws."

The chalk was removed, presumably by government workers before juror arrival time at 8 am this morning.

Liberty Essay Contest: 2008 Age 18-21 First Prize Winner

Congratulations to Garret Ean of Concord on his first prize winning essay of the 2008 NH Liberty Essay Contest! For his winning essay, Garret has been awarded $150. Garret’s essay is reproduced in full below:

Liberty: The Balance of Peace and Justice

In working with government and public service organizations, I consider no greater task one can undertake than the spread and promotion of individual liberty. As humans, we grow up naturally believing that we are the center of the universe, since perception dictates that only what we see, feel, and experience are conditions of the world around us. To begin thinking philosophically, one can break away from this inherent egoism and acknowledge the aspirations and dreams of others. Taking these factors into consideration, we can realize that the only just way managing society is to allow individuals to manage themselves.

Liberty Essay Contest: 2008 Age 17 and Under First Prize Winner

Congratulations to Elizabeth Rogers of Bow on her first prize winning essay of the 2008 NH Liberty Essay Contest! For her winning essay, Elizabeth has been awarded $75. Elizabeth’s essay is reproduced in full below:

Liberty and Individual Freedom

If the world had no individuality, where would civilization be? Even more so, what about individual freedoms? Without individual freedom, the fundamental, unspoken aspects of human life do not exist. The want to succeed, speak one’s mind, and help in the proceedings and particulars of projects and other endeavors, are all part of human nature. These are all hinged on individual liberties, which are indispensable.

New Hampshire Pink Pistols to Host Firearms Workshop

Will Provide Self-Defense and Safety Training to LGBT Community

New Hampshire Pink Pistols will hold its first monthly range day Sunday, May 25 2008, 11:00am to 3:00pm in Deerfield, NH.

The Pink Pistols will meet the last Sunday of every month to practice shooting, and to acquaint people new to firearms with them. We will help participants select a firearm, acquire a concealed carry license if they choose to get one, and receive proper training in its safe and legal use for self-defense. The more people know that members of our community may be adequately equipped for self-defense, the less likely they will be to single out members of the LGBT community for attack.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own firearms and hearing protection, but these will be provided for those who do not own them.
